History of Nike
Nike, Inc. is headquartered in Beaverton, Oregon. It is the largest and most successful brand of footwear, sports equipment, and clothing. Also, it is a popular culture icon with over 60% of the market share.
1970's
- In 1971, the Nike logo is created called The Swoosh.
- Nike's Air technology is created in 1979.
1980's
- In 1982, the Air Force 1 becomes the first Nike basketball shoe to make use of the Air technology.
- Michael Jordan is endorsed and releases the first Air Jordan in 1984. This is the start of the Jordan Brand.
- Nike surpasses $1 billion for the first time in 1986.
- In 1987, the Nike Air Max shoe is introduced.
- The "Just Do It" slogan is created in 1988.
- In 1989, Nike introduces the new cross-training design featuring two-sport athlete Bo Jackson and ran a serious of memorable ads called "Bo Knows".
1990's
- In 1990, the first Nike store opens in downtown Portland, Oregon.
- Tiger Woods becomes endorsed in 1996. Also, in 1996, Nike opens a signature store in Manhattan, New York.
2000's
- In 2000, the Shox technology is created.
- Rap star Nelly releases Air Force Ones, which was a chart topper.
- In 2003, international sales are greater than domestic sales. Also, in 2003, Lebron James is endorsed by Nike and Carmelo Anthony is endorsed by Jordan Brand.
